Which Vein Treatment is Right for You?

Vein disease affects approximately 25 million Americans and is one of the most common chronic conditions in the United States. Surgical Specialists of Carolina offer multiple minimally invasive techniques and treatments for people who suffer from varicose and spider veins.

Types of vein treatment

We offer the most modern techniques to help relieve the painful symptoms of vein disease, like heaviness, achiness and swelling.

This varicose vein treatment uses safe radiofrequency energy. A catheter with a small heating element is placed inside the varicose vein through a small incision just below the main vein in your leg. As this heating element moves through the vein, it damages the cartilage, sealing the vein off. When this happens, your blood naturally reroutes to healthy veins. Once the affected vein collapses and shrinks, the appearance of your legs will be restored.

VenaSeal TM

This treatment is similar to ClosureFast, but it uses an adhesive instead of a heating element. As a result of this difference, the procedure takes less time, requires zero downtime and eliminates the need for wearing compression stockings post treatment.

This procedure is most effective for those with severe, badly damaged or stretched veins. While most people receive satisfactory results from either the ClosureFast or VenaSeal treatments, Microphlebectomy may be required to make your varicose veins disappear. Using local anesthesia, small pinholes will be made along the length of the varicose vein. Then your vein care specialists will use a special tool to extract it. This procedure provides excellent results and produces minimal to no scarring.

Sclerotherapy is a medical treatment that is performed by injecting a special sclerosing solution directly into your vein. The salt solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel and causes it to collapse. When this happens, the appearance of your legs is restored as varicose and spider veins become virtually unnoticeable.

Which one is right for you?

If you suffer from severe to moderate vein disease, we usually recommend Microphlebectomy. It is the most effective treatment for badly damaged and stretched veins.

ClosureFast and VenaSeal are options for those with mild to moderate vein disease. ClosureFast is at least a 30-minute procedure that uses heat to treat and eliminate the affected vein. This treatment provides wonderful results with less soreness than Endovenous Laser Treatment. VenaSeal on the other hand, eliminates the risk of nerve injury often associated with thermal based treatments.

Sclerotherapy is often referred to as the gold standard in vein treatment because it is safe, fast and effective. This treatment is most commonly recommended for people who suffer from spider veins and small varicose veins.
